The Whitney in Boston

Fall is by far my favorite season to experience in Boston, and now there’s a new hotel to make the ‘staycation’ a little sweeter. This summer, The Whitney Hotel, opened it’s doors in Boston’s Beacon Hill neighborhood. The boutique property offers 65 rooms, a quiet courtyard for guests and Beacon Hill residents to retreat to, and the new Mediterranean restaurant, Peregrine, all elements adding to Charles Street allure. Whether you are looking for a city escape, or a new staycation location to rest your head, the Whitney is a new favorite that will complete the experience!

Must-try Restaurants:

They had us at daily lobster special! The Oyster Club located at the Heritage building (in the former Doretta location) is the latest fine dining restaurant to open in the Back Bay. The New England style menu brought to us by Chris Parsons will appeal to seafood lovers but we see there’s something for everyone like the Lily P fried chicken sandwich. This sandwich is sure to give us a taste of what’s to come at Parsons’ latest venture, a “fried chicken joint” opening in Cambridge. If Italian food is more your style, Orfano is now open in Fenway! Chef Tiffany Faison is bringing us Italian-American inspired dishes in a picture perfect setting on Boylston Street. We’ll be booking our Open Table reservations at both restaurants shortly.

Vineyard Heaven

I’ve been fortunate enough to visit Napa a few times in recent years, and each visit the region offers new experiences that never fail to surprise me! This year, we went right in the middle of harvest season, and every vineyard was bustling but we still found a few vineyards that made it seem less chaotic. By far our favorite vineyard and experience this trip was Reverie II Vineyard. Their estate is tucked away in the St. Helena region and tastings are by appointment only, and did not disappoint. From taking a quick ATV ride to a remote tasting area, to finding a few new favorites from their portfolio, I highly suggest adding this to the list your next trip. After showing up on a few recommendation lists from friends, we made reservations at Acacia House in St. Helena and it was by far the best meal I had on the trip. No detail was overlooked from atmosphere to service, and the food was absolutely incredible - our high compliments to the chef! Already looking forward to the next trip back, and will definitely revisit these favorites! - JD

Shopping The Cue

“Fit for the Trendy Professional” is The Cue’s tag line, and their shops are entirely just that! We had the chance to check out the newest location of this style lounge/shop in Legacy Place, and it not only had the perfect outfit for every scenario (work, date nights, lazy sundays, etc) but also so many great items for gifts for friends, co-workers, your favorite hostess, or those days when you want to just treat-your-self! Be sure to check out their location at Legacy Place this month, or their shop in Dorchester. We’re sure you’ll find what you need, even if you weren’t looking for it! - JJ

Fashion week .jpg

Fashion Week: NYC & Paris

September is a crucial month on the fashion calendar. Industry magazines’ largest most coveted issues like Vogue’s “bible” hit newsstands and the highly anticipated New York Fashion Week takes place in September (9/6-9/14) followed by Paris Fashion Week (9/23-10/1). We love seeing what top designers are showcasing for next season and of course check out who was there, what they wore and what parties had the best activations. Since we couldn’t be there we’re also following along to see what impressive work our client Jana Rago of Jana Rago Studios is up to. Rago is assisting lead hairstylists for runway shows at NYFW before traveling to Paris to style models for some of the biggest designer shows at Paris Fashion Week.

Boston’s newest pop-up, Glossier has finally opened and we are ready to try out all of their must-have products. You can’t miss the signature pink shop located at 85 Northern Ave in the Seaport District. The shop is separated into smaller houses where you can find all of your beauty essentials, along with exclusive new Boston merchandise. We definitely plan on stopping in and stocking up; it’s our own version of “back to school” shopping!

St. Anthony’s Feast

With Summer coming to an end, we’re choosing food festivals over ‘beach bods’. Mark your calendars for Saint Anthony’s Feast from August 22nd-25th. This has become the largest religious food festival in New England. Celebrating the 100th anniversary of the festival this year, visitors can indulge in Boston's best food, live music and plenty of family-friendly activities! The annual festival is located on Endicott, Thacher & N. Margin Streets in Boston’s North End. Mangiare!

Friday Night Lights & Movies

Soak in the last few weeks of summer in the city and head over to the Esplanade for a Friday night movie with family and friends. WBZ News presents Free Friday Flicks for the 34th year! This event is free, all you need is a lawn chair and/or blanket. The WBZ movie night also consists of free games and giveaways. What better way to watch a family movie with one of the city’s best backdrops!

Checking out Time-Out Market

The Time-Out Market is not your average food hall. Located in the Landmark Center in Fenway, it features 15 of Boston’s hottest restaurants including Craigie Burger, Saltie Girl, Monti Roman Pizzeria, Revolution Health Kitchen, and many many more. Just looking for a spot to grab a drink before the next Sox game? They’ve also got you covered with a full bar, featuring signature margaritas and new takes on classic cocktails. With so many incredible choices, we’re not even sure we’d make it to the ballgame, and we’re kind of okay with that (sorry Sox).

Cape Cod .jpg

Summer Getaway: The Cape

We’re rounding out our Summer Getaways with the Cape! We are still doing the research on best lobster roll and ice cream shop, but right now front runners include The Lobster Pot in P-town and Four Seas Ice Cream in Barnstable! When it comes to places to stay, if you’re further down the cape, you really can’t beat Chatham Bars Inn. And if you’re looking for the best atmosphere for cocktails, Wequassett’s outdoor bar is the spot. For those that prefer a more local atmosphere, we highly suggest The Squire.

Some of our other favorite spots include: Crisp in Osterville, Anejo in downtown Hyannis and the infamous Chart Room in Falmouth! It’s way too hard to pick favorites, but you truly can’t go wrong with any town on the Cape. It’s got something for everyone, and will always be our happy place!

July Headlines

The Wing Boston

The Wing is open! The highly anticipated workspace for both men and women has opened its doors on the penthouse floor of 699 Boylston Street in the Back Bay. We have been popping in and out of the picture perfect space ourselves to get work done and meet with business contacts. The Wing is perfect for those who work from home or have a small office but need conference rooms, a place to network or even shower to get ready for events. The chic workspace is a membership based club with amenities such as a rooftop patio, nursing rooms, cafe with complimentary coffee, styling stations complete with hair tools and products and last but not least, members can sign up for complimentary educational events.

Cool Down & Towel Off with Zero K

While we’re busy running around the city, whether it’s in-between meetings or trying to cool off after a workout, Zero K Wipes have come to our rescue to help us chill out. These individually wrapped towelettes distribute a cooling and cleansing formula, made from 98% natural ingredients, and contain a refreshing peppermint scent. We keep one on us at all times, especially during these summer months when the city is extra toasty. Between these, and our Aperol Spritz’ we’re staying super refreshed all summer long.

Break a Sweat on the Greenway

Fitting in a workout during the summertime can be extremely difficult. Seaport Sweat has your back with free outdoor workout classes taught by some of Boston’s best instructors. Summer Getaway: Nantucket

ACK truly is our happy place. Just a quick ferry ride from Hyannis, and an even quicker flight from Logan, there’s no doubt when we’re there we are on island time. We prefer staying downtown at some of our favorite spots such as Hotel Pippa and Greydon House. Then it’s straight to Cisco Brewery for one (or a few) figawi wowie’s and some live music. There are so many great options for dinner, but at the top of our lists is always Cru, Lola 41, and happy hour sunsets don’t get better than soaking them in at Galley Beach! The summer months are the most popular, but we’re fans of ‘shoulder season’ when crowds tend to die down and the winter weather hasn’t hit. We’re happy to be part of the cliche and say ‘it’s always good to be bACK’.

Foxborough’s Gone Country

Great news country music fans - Country fest will be a year-round event now that the new Six String venue has opened it’s doors in Foxborough’s Patriot Place this summer! The summer concert lineup at Gillette Stadium has always had a strong country presence, and Six String’s will continue to bring in more performances all year long. Available for private events, a fun pre-game to the next big game, or a great night out to get your country music fix - Six Strings is serving the north a taste of the south.

The proof is in the Poof Powder

It can be extremely difficult to keep our scalps sunburn-free when enjoying a hot summer day. Supergoop has worked to formulate a product to solve this problem. They created a 100 percent mineral SPF 45 powder spray which aims to protect your scalp. This SPF Is infused with beneficial ingredients such as Vitamin C and Silica which absorbs excess oils from our hair. This allows the powder to work as a Dry Shampoo as well. Even better this product is vegan-free, gluten-free and cruelty free. The poof part powder will allow us to fully enjoy our beach day and not worry about another painful sunburn.

Working on the Night Shift

We typically head to the Esplanade to get in a walk or run, but now thanks to Night Shift Brewing’s new pop-up beer garden, The Owls Nest, we can enjoy happy hour as well. Open from late afternoon and on, the Owls Nest is the perfect spot to post up and enjoy a beer and a great view, after a long day. Night Shift Brewing debuted The Owl’s Nest, their seasonal pop-up beer garden, last year, and us Bostonian’s rejoiced now that they’re back for year 2! Serving up fresh craft beers and wines, this family-friendly (and dog-friendly) space is one of our favorites!

Yeezy Drop

The popular Kanye West Yeezy V2 350 and V2 700 will be released in new colorways coming early this June. The drop will be releasing a stealthy "Black" color scheme which will come in both static and reflective material for the 350’s and a “Vanta” (black/dark gray) color for the 700’s. The Yeezy 700 V2’s drop on June 6th, the Yeezy 350 V2 Statics drop on June 7th, and the rumored 350 Static Reflectives are TBD, but should be dropping anywhere from the 5th-8th in select locations. The Hyperspace, Clay, and Desert Boot Rock colors sold out fast in March along with the limited April and May drops so don’t forget to log online or pick these new releases up in stores ASAP. - JF

Summer Getaway: Newport

Filled with great food, beach and ocean views, luxurious hotels and an abundance of activities, Newport is the perfect spot for an early summer trip. One of our favorite activities is to grab a picnic basket and set up the perfect tailgate at Newport’s International Polo Series. This month the matches will take place on the 8th, 14th, 15th, 22nd, 26th, and 29th. The Newport International Polo Series features teams from around the world & from major US cities competing against USA / Newport. The coming season (tickets and schedule) promises an exciting lineup of action-packed polo matches, international team debuts and memorable special events for fun on and off the field, supported by an enthusiastic spectator audience. And if you’re making it an overnight stay, we highly suggest one of our favorites, The Chanler. We typically begin and end our trips to Newport with a stop on the lawn of Castle Hill Inn. Whether it’s taking in a sunrise or sunset, nothing beats a summer view in this coastal oasis.

May Headlines

Rose + Patio Season =

The Perfect Blend

While we’re excited all the Beer Gardens have been saved and will live to see another year popping up around Boston, we’re even more thrilled to see a Winery pop up amongst them! This May City Winery will open it’s first outdoor pop-up wine garden on the Greenway’s Dewey Square! Open 4 days a week (Wednesday, Friday, Saturday & Sunday) from May through October - Bostonian’s can finally flip the script and be a place ‘where the wine flows like beer’.

The Esplanade is in full bloom, and it’s my favorite time of year to take advantage of one of our cities most scenic running paths. That being said, I’ve been a bit off my running game due to a hip injury I’ve been dealing with the last two years. I was referred by a friend to BDY SQD on Newbury Street (they also recently opened a second location in Ink Block) and it has been exactly what the doctor ordered. Their services focus on one-on-one stretch sessions, individual infrared saunas, and NormaTec Boots, to give your body the full reset it needs in between all of our yoga, Barrys, Soul-Cycle (the list goes on) workouts. BDY SQD has already gotten me back running along the Esplanade, and completely changed my stretch routine so I don’t have to take a 2 year hiatus again.

Jana Rago Studios

With the Spring always comes a busy social calendar, and that’s where Jana Rago comes in. The seasoned runway stylist has just opened the doors to her own studio on Newbury Street this April, upping the Salon game in Boston’s Back Bay. Known for her work with some of Hollywood’s most beautiful faces, such as GiGi Haddad, Barbara Palvin, Kendall Jenner, and many more, we know we’d gladly add our name to her clientele list. - JJ

All about that Dough Life

Say hello to your newest sweet treat addiction. With a dozen different flavors to choose from, the edible cookie dough shop, Dough Life, has just opened up their latest location at the Cambridgeside Galleria Mall just in time for summer. They have two additional locations in Massachusetts at the Braintree and Holyoke Malls, so you no longer need to just lick the spoon. From their fun flavors like “S’more Please” and “Monster M&M” to the good old fashioned “Classic Chip”, you definitely don’t want to miss out on this new, yet old, sweet trend. Who has the time to wait for cookies to bake anyways these days? - JJ

A Night at the Museum

There’s no shortage of events taking place at the Museum of Fine Arts this spring. A few that we’re looking forward to include the Gender Bender Exhibit (now - August 25th), covering the rich history of fashion disrupting, blurring, and redefining conventions and expectations around the relationship between gender and dress; and the Frida Khalo and Arte Popular exhibit (now - June 19th) is definitely on the to do list. Last but not least, the MFA’s Summer Party on June 8th is one of the city’s hottest blacktie events of the season. The stylish event taking place in the Shapiro Family Courtyard is hosted by the MFA’s Museum Council to benefit exhibitions and community programs at the museum. - JG

Library Libations

Book worms rejoice, you can now pull up a barstool and sip the classic Tequila Mockingbird. Or you could indulge in the Catcher In The Rye, while also reading the classic novel. Located inside of the Boston Public Library and opening on May 21, the Map Room Tea Lounge is a brand new cocktail lounge featuring drinks inspired by the famous novels that occupy the shelves of our city’s historic landmark. Along with tea-focused cocktails, the Map Room Tea Lounge will feature tea leaf readings on Wednesdays. In addition to the new cocktail lounge, BPL’s courtyard area also recently completed renovations just in time for spring so be sure to grab a cocktail or afternoon tea with your next literary adventure. - JJ

We recently got to meet the team over at ASICS and got a behind-the-scenes tour of their Boston offices. Like their fellow Bostonian’s, their team is ready for Marathon Monday and they’ve created a sneaker to kick off (pun very much intended) the best Monday of the year! Their GEL-Cumulus 20 Boston shoe pays tribute to the race’s well-known home stretch directions, ‘right on Hereford, left on Boylston’. So whether you’re running the 26.2, or cheering on those who are - you should add these to your closet ASAP!

- JJ

Red Sox Patriot’s Day Game

What better way to celebrate Patriot’s Day then to watch the defending World Series Champions take on the Baltimore Orioles and celebrate the Marathon right in the heart of Boston. Before the game be sure to check out Porto’s Marathon Monday Party for $1 oysters and champagne just steps from the finish line or Fenway staple Eastern Standard for their pre-game festivities.

Vega Vitality

Imagine a one-stop-shop for all your health and beauty needs and you’ve basically found it at VEGA Vitality. The team at VEGA Vitality is my go-to for pampering and taking my skincare routine to the next level. From skin peels, botox, and eyelash extensions to offering nutrition, acupuncture and yoga consultations - their extensive team takes a holistic approach to all of their services. Like many, I always need to do damage control for my skin this time of year. And since we’re only half way through our lovely New England winter, there’s really no better time to treat yourself, and your skin, than now!

Milk Bar Boston

Pizza and ice cream together under one roof. Need we say more? The infamous Milk Bar is making its Boston debut in Harvard Square this month and we cannot wait to try their cereal milk soft serve, milkquakes, and other ‘insta worthy’ goodies. We’re not saying to completely abandon those New Year’s resolutions, but Milk Bar certainly seems like a worthy excuse to a have a cheat day.

- JJ

January Headlines

I try to make a list of new places to visit every year (both near and far) and the TOURISTS hotel in North Adams, Massachusetts easily made the cut for 2019. Nestled in the Berkshires, the TOURIST hotel is where retreat meets adventure. Their website provides you with plenty of ‘to-do’s’ for those that are looking to explore the area, but if you’re simply looking for a place to unwind and let your mind go quiet for a bit, their property seems to be the ideal place for that as well. Looking forward to taking it all in in person this year! - JD

If you’re looking for some inspiration to kick off your year, then you may want to head over to The CCP to hear about their mission. The Culture Connection Project, started by Joshua Sims and Tyler James, brings volunteers from around the world over to Uganda to teach, and learn, from the students at Arlington Academy of Hope. Their programs are structured to promote equality and understanding of each other and celebrate the differences in different cultures. Their 2018 group has just returned from their trip, but you can check out their site, and Instagram, @the.ccp, to learn more about this amazing group of people and how you can join the effort!

We’re already big fans of Frenchie in the South End, so we were so excited to hear that their team will be opening up a sister restaurant, Colette, in Porter Square at the beginning of 2019! The menu will be similar to it’s siblings (Frenchie & Petit Robert Bistro), and you can currently get a sneak peek of the interiors on their Instagram page, @colette1924! We’ll be making reservations, des que possible!

Aspen Snowmass

Skiing out west is a special experience for us New Englanders whether it’s your first time or you’re a frequent flyer to hit the slopes. Though we love our mountains here, there’s just something about that clean mountain air, untouched powder, plenty of open trails to keep advanced skiers and riders out on the mountain all day, and of course beautiful resorts and ski towns with a life of their own. Aspen, Colorado has it all and will always have a special place in my heart since it’s where I got engaged and experienced Colorado skiing for the first time. Whether you’re hitting the slopes or taking a stroll through the charming town there’s plenty to do on the mountain and at the base. The Little Nell, Hotel Jerome or the St. Regis in Aspen are located in the heart of downtown allowing you to walk to the Silver Queen Gondola, award winning restaurants, night life, spas, the Aspen Art Museum, ice skating and a SOULCYCLE pop up (“Destination Soul”) open until the end of March if you’re looking to burn some extra holiday calories. And what’s a ski town without apres ski hot spots? The Little Nell hotel bar and Cloud Nine, a ski-in, ski-out restaurant and bar is where you’ll want to go. Lastly, we would recommend making dinner reservations at Matsuhisa, The Monarch and Campo de Fiori. Note when booking your trip, the X Games return to Aspen January 24-27! - JGW

TIEM Spin Shoes

Needless to say we let ourselves indulge a little bit this holiday season, and so with the start of the new year, there are NO excuses to get back into our workout routines. We’re both loyal to our spin studios, but were looking for some new gear to help motivate us to get back into the saddle. These TIEM spin shoes not only look sleek, but are so comfortable, and work with majority of studio bikes! Now there are really no excuses to kick off the new year on the right foot. -JJ

by Jen Royle

The North End is adding a new restaurant to their roster, but this one comes with a twist. TABLE, by Jen Royle, is opening on Hanover Street December 19th and will host 2-3 seatings a night, where guests will be seated together at two long custom tables! We can’t wait to dig our forks into the 15 layer eggplant parm, or the carbonara! As Chef/Owner, Jen Royle says, “come as strangers, leave as friends”!

As we prepare for the holiday season, we are reminded of ways we can give back to deserving charitable programs. One day that we look forward to every holiday seasons is #GIVINGTUESDAY. A national day of giving back that always falls the Tuesday after Thanksgiving. If you have been wanting to support a cause that’s dear to you or support a friend’s fundraising initiative, you can do so online on November 27th! We all have friends running the Boston Marathon for a charitable organization so give them the gift of support on CrowdRise.

October Headlines

The bag says it all; I’ve got a serious case of wanderlust right now, and Forestbound’s “Escape” bags are the perfect accessory for any trip. These canvas bags have been a favorite of mine for awhile now, and I love that they’re made right in Somerville, MA! Their weekender comes in a few colors, and they’re canvas utility bag has a couple different options, if you’re not feeling the need to ‘escape’. Also, for anyone like me that has trouble landing on a destination, their website has a cabin directory, called “Cabin Escapes”, which has a list of locations that people have vouched for so you don’t have to waste time looking through different sites. All you have to do is grab your bag and take off!

Alexandre Birman Mules

One of the biggest fashion trends we are seeing this season in womenswear is plaid. Storefronts and online shopping homepages are drenched with variations of the print from full plaid suits to overcoats and yes, shoes. Think a toned-down Cher in Clueless! I’m loving this trend because it brings me back to my equestrian days! If you aren’t ready to jump all in, check out the Evelyn Plaid Mules complete with a feminine bow and subtle print by Brazilian footwear designer Alexandre Birman. - JGW

Wellfleet OysterFest - Courtney2.JPG

Wellfleet Oyster Festival

Rose season may be over, but thankfully oysters are a year-round thing here in New England. The 18th annual Wellfleet Oyster Festival is taking place on October 13 & 14th, and this two day celebration never disappoints. There’s plenty of activities for everyone, but one of the weekend’s most popular events, the Oyster Shuck-Off kicks off on Saturday afternoon. Rain or shine, we’re there! - JJ

Barry’s Bootcamp - Decade’s Challenge

The team behind the ‘best workout in the world’ is launching their newest challenge this October. Celebrating two decades in the red room, Barry’s is challenging participants to 20 classes in 30 days. These classes are constantly changing and always kick my ass. There’s no question it’s by far my favorite work out in the city, whether I’m up for this challenge is a whole different story.

Wasik’s The Cheese Shop

The Cheese Shop, located in downtown Wellesley - in the most charming space in town - is where you will find gourmet cheeses and specialty foods like honey, chocolates, olive oil, sea salts, chutney, spices and sauces. But let’s face it, this family operated business is known for its wine and cheese. It’s been their thing since 1964! Something on our social to do list is taking one of their cheese classes with cheesemonger and affineur Brian Wasik. This shop has become our go to for gifts and cocktail parties, and now with the holidays coming up, the shop will soon be taking orders for specialty fruit pies and gift baskets. - JJ

Island Creek Oyster Raw Bar

If you haven’t already heard from friends on the south shore, or seen from social media, Island Creek Oyster opened up a pop-up oyster bar in Duxbury earlier this summer! Great oysters, beer, and a perfect back drop - it’s the ideal spot whether you’re looking to get out of the city for an afternoon, or need to wait out traffic coming back/headed to the cape! - JD

Hotel Pippa, Nantucket

September is by far our favorite time to be on ACK - tourist season starts to die down, the weather is perfect, and the island is still, for the most part, open for business. While we were on our first JJ Media retreat, we stumbled upon Hotel Pippa. The newest boutique hotel to open up right in the center of town. With 17 rooms total, there’s a room style for everyone, and it’s crisp white and blue modern decor fits right into the island vibe. We already can’t wait to set up shop on their adorable garden/patio area, or belly up to their wine bar, during our next retreat! - JD

Stone Path Malt

While we love all the pop-up breweries throughout the city this summer, we are pretty excited to venture out of the city for Stone Path Malt’s Oktoberfest celebrations at the end of the month. The new Maltery is perfect for beer connoisseurs, families, or if you’re just looking for a cold one! The taproom has some local New England craft favorites, and for Oktoberfest weekend they’ll be plenty of food, games, and beer on tap for all! Prost! - JJ

Love is in the air! “Love” bracelets that is. Cartier is set to open a new four story boutique at the end of the month on the luxury end of Newbury Street (a few doors down from their current location) in Boston. With the additional space, we can’t wait to see all the precious jewels, watches, fragrances, leather goods and more that will be displayed inside what we all expect to be a stunning new location. The soon to open Cartier boutique is located on Newbury Street between Arlington and Berkeley. - JGW
